Roselea House
Kingdom Homes Ltd is delighted to announce the completion of a purpose built dementia care unit in Cowdenbeath.
One of the memory boxes, this one with a wedding theme, which are located in the corridors to help stimulate residents and provide conversation topics.
The care home, Roselea House, completed in April 2010, is at the forefront of care for residents with dementia type illness. Roselea House boasts large single occupancy en-suite rooms all with showers in a single storey building. The home has 20 bedrooms and is registered for 22 residents as two rooms are available for couples to share.
We have taken advice from Stirling University Dementia Services Development Centre and have incorporated interior design features which provide solutions for people with dementia. Some of the features are:-
- Dementia signposting, including 3D tactile signposting.
- Individual memory boxes on bedroom doors.
- 3D tactile memory murals.
- Non-intrusive call bell system with sensory activated lighting in bedrooms.
Our principal aim was to provide a home with a real family atmosphere for all our residents coupled with respect for their privacy, individual rights, independence and freedom of choice. A dedicated team is lead by the home manager, Hazel Dunsmuir, who is a Registered Nurse and an accredited dementia care trainer. Hazel has also undertaken training with the Alzheimers Society of Great Britain. All staff will undergo specialist training in order to provide sensitive and appropriate care. Using a "person centred" approach, based on leading theory in current dementia care practice, residents will receive high levels of attention and supervision based on their individual needs and wishes.
